Video tutorial
About the format
When creating a video tutorial, I believe it's crucial to first answer three key questions to ensure your content is focused and effective:
Who is your audience?
This structured approach helps in scripting and recording a tutorial that not only engages but also educates the viewers efficiently.
I like this format because it can be versatile: video tutorials can stand alone as independent learning resources, be incorporated into educational courses, added to a knowledge base as a reference tool, or used in training modules for onboarding new employees. They can also serve as marketing materials to demonstrate the value of a product or service, enhancing customer support and engagement.
This format is exemplified in a tutorial on setting up a visual project management dashboard using Trello, demonstrating a clear and methodical way to enhance project tracking and coordination for small teams.
What specific problem will the tutorial solve?
What will the audience be able to do after watching it?
Evaluation
Evaluating the success of a tutorial video can involve several metrics and feedback mechanisms. Combining these methods provides a comprehensive view of how well the tutorial meets its educational goals and engages its intended audience.
Conversion Rates
I try to measure how many viewers take a specific action after watching, such as signing up for more content, downloading resources, or completing tasks highlighted in the tutorial.
Viewer Analytics
I try to track the number of views, average watch time, and retention rates to understand viewer engagement and where they might lose interest.
Direct User Feedback
I collect immediate reactions from viewers through comments, ratings, or direct surveys to gather insights into the video's clarity and usefulness.
Supervisor Feedback
I beleive that long-term feedback from supervisors or managers can help track behavioral changes and practical applications of the tutorial's content over time.
